Good morning students!  I hope everyone had a good Halloween and is doing well!  For home learning today and tomorrow students will work on the home learning packages that were sent home at the start of the year.  The information sheet that was included in the package can be seen below:

 

Home Learning Package:

 

The following learning activities have been provided to be used in the event of a school closure. These activities can be worked on over the first week of the school closure.

 

***GRADE 3, 4, and 5 STUDENTS:

 

Every Day this week students will:

 

-If books and texts are available at home, every day students should be doing 20 minutes of silent reading.

-Short texts with reading comprehension questions are included in the package for students to work on.

 

-Every day students can spend about 20 minutes a day working on any type of writing activity that they would like (lined paper is included in the package). For example, students could:

 

*Create their own comic book or comic strip.

 

*Listen to a piece of music that they enjoy. They could then write about how the piece of music made them feel, what they think it is about, what instruments they hear, what they like about the piece, etc.

 

*Write a poem.

 

*Write a song.

 

*Do something fun outside. They could then write a paragraph describing what they did.

 

*Draw a picture. They could then write a short paragraph describing their picture.

 

*Write a paragraph describing their favorite tv show or movie.

 

*Write a story or personal narrative of their choosing.

 

 

-Every day this week students should engage in at least 30 minutes of physical activity.  Included in the package is an Activity Choice Board that contains suggestions for different activities that students could engage in.

 

 

-Every day this week students can practice basic addition facts (worksheets included in package).

 

***Grade 3 students:

 

-Every day this week have grade 3 students practice skip counting by 3s to 30.

 

*On a hundreds chart (included in package) students can shade in every third number starting with 3 (3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30).

 

*Students can then practice counting aloud by 3s up to 30, using what they wrote down to help them.

 

*When students feel comfortable they can practice counting by 3s without the help of their visual.

 

 

-Every day this week have grade 3 students practice skip counting by 4s to 40.

 

*On a hundreds chart (included in package) students can shade in every fourth number starting with 4 (4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40).

 

*Students can then practice counting aloud by 4s up to 40, using what they wrote down to help them.

 

*When students feel comfortable they can practice counting by 4s without the help of their visual.

 

 

***Grade 4 and 5 students:

-Every day this week students should spend 15 minutes reviewing their 3 and 4 times tables (3 and 4 times table worksheets included in package can be used to help with this).
