Everyone who knows me, knows Van Gogh's The Starry Starry Night is my absolute favorite piece of art and every year I used it for inspiration when developing lessons. This year the grades 3-5 class got the opportunity to experience that inspiration! However, it wasn't an ordinary lesson. Think about Van Gogh and Dr. Seuss, how could you possible tie these two together? Well here is it! "Dr. Van Suess the Christmas Night" (one of the students named this piece) Students created a starry starry night background, with the foreground being whimsical Christmas tree from Dr. Seuss.

After reading the story A wish to be a Christmas tree written by Colleen Monroe, the students at Harcourt Elementary participated in another STEM challenge. They were divided into 5 multiage groups, given random materials and provided with a challenge. Their challenge was to plan, design and build the tallest Christmas tree. They all worked together, collaborated, problem solved and together  they completed the challenge. Great job everyone! I am so proud of you. Check out our photo gallery to see more images of this amazing event!
